The All India Budo Shotokan Karate Association (AIBSKA) has long stood for the highest ideals of traditional martial arts. Since 2007, it has brought the world’s finest karate masters to India, shaping a generation of practitioners through knowledge and discipline. But something extraordinary happened at the 10th AIBSKA-JSKA International Seminar held on the 14th and 15th of November 2024. This was not just another event—it was a turning point.
A Glimpse into the Deeper Layers of Karate
Led by Sensei Eyal Nir from Israel, a direct disciple of the legendary Hidetaka Nishiyama Sensei, this year’s seminar unfolded a rare and powerful understanding of karate: one that connects body, energy, and spirit. In particular, the Advanced Kumite Camp revealed how the tanden—the energy center located in the lower abdomen—can be the source of effortless speed, power, and intuition.
Sensei Nir emphasized that true kumite goes beyond physical contact. It is about feeling your opponent, anticipating action, and moving with intent. Through precise demonstrations and intense drills, he showed us how to connect deeply with the tanden, turning internal awareness into external force. It wasn’t just training; it was transformation.
Tanden: The Core of Movement and Spirit
For many of us, this was the first time we truly understood the synchronicity between spiritual depth and technical excellence. Sensei Nir made it clear: when the mind is calm and centered in the tanden, the body moves without effort, and action arises without delay.
This concept echoed the timeless teachings of his mentor, Nishiyama Sensei, who always stressed that karate is a path of harmony—between breath and motion, body and mind, self and opponent. Sensei Nir carried this legacy forward with grace and intensity, reminding us that the journey of a karateka is not just one of form, but of internal growth.
The Man Behind the Mission: Sensei Eyal Nir
Sensei Nir is more than a world-class martial artist. A 7th Dan black belt and the 2019 Traditional Karate World Champion, he brings a unique blend of tradition and innovation. Having served as a Major in the Israeli Defense Forces and holding both BSc and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering, his approach is grounded in both physical and intellectual rigor.
He is the founder of the BuDo-Way program and co-founder of the high-tech 4D2C startup, showing that his vision extends beyond the dojo. And yet, what stands out most is his humility, clarity, and deep respect for the martial way.
AIBSKA’s Legacy of Excellence
Over the years, AIBSKA has hosted many remarkable instructors, including:
Charles Gidley (UK)
Steven Palmer (UK)
Keigo Abe (Japan)
David Hooper (Japan)
Masao Kawasoe (Scotland)
Toshihiro Mori (Japan)
Mitsuru Nagaki (Japan)
Shinji Nagaki (Japan), WKF World Champion 2008
Eyal Nir (Israel)
This legacy continued in full force at the recent seminar, as Sensei Nir reshaped our understanding of body dynamics in kumite. The way he connected internal energy flow with outward motion was, in the words of one participant, “nothing short of revolutionary.”
A New Era for AIBSKA-JSKA
With practitioners attending from all over India, this seminar was a convergence of tradition, innovation, and inspiration. What we took home was not just a better technique, but a deeper purpose. We now understand that karate, at its highest level, is a spiritual discipline as much as a martial one.
Thanks to Sensei Eyal Nir and the enduring influence of Nishiyama Sensei, AIBSKA is not just preserving traditional karate—it is evolving it. We left this seminar transformed, carrying not only new skills but a new way of being.
